An actor interprets stories accompanied by comic book illustrations for children placed in a small wooden theatre – butaj.

In Rijeka and the first Croatian professional kamishibaj theatre, we will tell you four stories that take us through the seasons.

Caterpillar Emerik, elephant Gašpar, lion Mirislav and penguin Frederik are the main characters of these beautiful stories from the pen and illustrations by Pika Vončina, who start their life in the theater from the picture book and very unpretentiously and unusually talk about growing up, childhood, friendship and parenthood.

Story on the move: The Magical Plays

The performance of GKL Rijeka ‘Magical pipes’ in the form of a moving story will take place in our backyard.
This play is a stage game, the starting point of which is the basic children's need to move.

Through simple exercises, children listen to the story “Magical pipes” and thus enrich the language corpus and recreate themselves. In addition to the author, who is also the actress of GKL Rijeka, Alex Đaković, an actor-puppet and athlete in charge of the sports part of the story, also participates in the play.

The play is intended for children, but parents, educators or teachers can also participate in it.

“Magical pipes” will become part of the programme of the European Capital of Culture Rijeka 2020 and an integral part of the Children's House programme line.

The visual identity was created by artists Andreja Jandrečić and Sara Ivančan.

Baby Bebač is on Drenova

Baby Bebač follows the first year of life of twin babies. From the first cry to the first step, the baby girl and the baby boy face various challenges: cramps, growing teeth, crawling, getting up and stumbling. Their parents do not know what leeee, neeee, aaaa means, so because of various trifles they call friends, relatives and doctors. During this time, babies develop their own language, only understandable to them, the language of sounds and images that leads them to explore the world in the smallest detail. While adults will be reminded of how important it is to make mistakes and try and learn over and over again, our babies may encounter puppet art for the first time and find a theatrical thrill in this, for them new, experience that will accompany them in their growing up.

The author team of the play consists of screenwriter and director David Petrović, dramaturgical associates Nataša Antulov, Goran Zelić and Andrea Špindel, assistant director Goran Zelić, visual identity author Nisa Hrvatin, composer Olja Dešić, lighting designer Sanjin Seršić, and performed by Andrea Špindel and David Petrović.

The performance space next to the Drenova Heritage Museum is arranged by volunteer work of members of associations “Without Borders” and “Dren” as part of the Rijeka Local Partnership Programme, which transforms the museum yard into an open-air public performance space for performances, film screenings, lectures, social life...
